Matthew 12 — Greek Interlinear

Ἐν ἐκείνῳ τῷ καιρῷ ἐπορεύθη ὁ Ἰησοῦς τοῖς σάββασιν διὰ τῶν σπορίμων· οἱ δὲ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπείνασαν καὶ ἤρξαντο τίλλειν στάχυας καὶ ἐσθίειν.

in that the time went {the} Jesus the Sabbaths through the grainfields the {and} disciples his were hungry and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat

οἱ δὲ Φαρισαῖοι ἰδόντες εἶπαν αὐτῷ· Ἰδοὺ οἱ μαθηταί σου ποιοῦσιν ὃ οὐκ ἔξεστιν ποιεῖν ἐν σαββάτῳ.

the but Pharisees having seen {they} said to him look the disciples your {they} are doing what not lawful to do on Sabbath

ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Οὐκ ἀνέγνωτε τί ἐποίησεν Δαυὶδ ὅτε ⸀ἐπείνασεν καὶ οἱ μετʼ αὐτοῦ;

he then said to them not did you read what did David when he was hungry and those with him

πῶς εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τοὺς ἄρτους τῆς προθέσεως ⸂ἔφαγον, ὃ⸃ οὐκ ἐξὸν ἦν αὐτῷ φαγεῖν οὐδὲ τοῖς μετʼ αὐτοῦ εἰ μὴ τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν μόνοις;

how he entered into the house of {the} God and the loaves of the Presence they ate which not lawful was for him to eat nor for the with him if not for the priests only

ἢ οὐκ ἀνέγνωτε ἐν τῷ νόμῳ ὅτι τοῖς σάββασιν οἱ ἱερεῖς ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ τὸ σάββατον βεβηλοῦσιν καὶ ἀναίτιοί εἰσιν;

Or not have you read in the Law how on the Sabbaths the priests in the temple the Sabbath {they} profane and guiltless are

λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ὅτι τοῦ ἱεροῦ μεῖζόν ἐστιν ὧδε.

I say but to you that than the temple greater is here

εἰ δὲ ἐγνώκειτε τί ἐστιν· Ἔλεος θέλω καὶ οὐ θυσίαν, οὐκ ἂν κατεδικάσατε τοὺς ἀναιτίους.

if but you had known what is mercy I desire and not sacrifice not would have condemned the guiltless

κύριος γάρ ἐστιν τοῦ σαββάτου ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου.

Lord for {He} is of the Sabbath the son of the man

Καὶ μεταβὰς ἐκεῖθεν ἦλθεν εἰς τὴν συναγωγὴν αὐτῶν·

And having gone on from there he came into the synagogue their

καὶ ἰδοὺ ⸀ἄνθρωπος χεῖρα ἔχων ξηράν. καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν λέγοντες· Εἰ ἔξεστι τοῖς σάββασιν ⸀θεραπεύειν; ἵνα κατηγορήσωσιν αὐτοῦ.

and behold a man hand with withered and they asked him saying if it is lawful on Sabbaths to heal so that they might accuse him
